Douala: town of art for everybody

Douala seems to be a very dynamic city in the field of the visual arts. Through painting, sculpture, many artists try to question and to wonder about their environment.
Arts in general are however not the major concern of Cameroonians which, when they do not fight for their survival, have evil to find an interest in contemporary art.

There are several exhibition places in Douala and Yaounde and the hotels, the restaurants, attended by the expats act also as sale's places.

Some however try to make the visual arts accessible to the greatest number through actions in popular districts.
The initiative taken by the cercle Kapsiki in partnership with the French collective Scur&k to led an action in the district New Bell, popular district of Douala: "Scénographies Urbaines" (Urban Scenographies) goes in the direction of a greater proximity of the artists with their immediate environment.
