Douala: economic capital...

Douala, city of 2 millions inhabitants (or more?) who grows at the rhythm of rural exode. Everybody wants to take his chance in this economic capital of Cameroon. But life is not so easy for many citizens. Small shanty in marshy area, small jobs to find a few hundreds francs to eat and feed the family. But also big houses, big cars fot those who succeed...

We lived for two years in this town. Not in the same conditions of course. In the section "Everyday life", we try to describe some aspects of the live in this town. (In french for the moment.)
It's quite difficult to have pictures, people do not really like to be photographed.
After many hesitations we did some pictures to show the richness of life in Douala streets. Not easy, we had to negociate for each photo, sometimes with the crowd around us, a bit stressing but finally here is the result: galleries about everyday life.
There is a port of regional importance (Central Africa) and several breweries.
As living in Douala is not so easy for many Camroonians, there is an influence on their behavior. They used to shout at each other more than exchanging smiles. Don't wait for the seller to say 'hello' and give you a smile when entering the shop...
Anyway, Douala is an amazing city to live in and on can find also real frienship...
