Hills of the West
The West is a pleasant area with its hills, its mountains which offer natural sites which are worth to visit (Mifi, Ekom falls,
Manengouba mounts, Nfou, Baleng lakes ,...).
And its chefferies
Bamileke and Bamoun people
make the essence of the population of the area. All and sundry kept very
strong traditions which one can discover through their chefferies and sometimes a contiguous museum.
One finds a multitude of chefferies in the neighbourhoods of Bafoussam
(each village has his own in bamileke country), but some are more visited than others.
Thus most famous is the one of Bandjoun,
but one would not have to miss that of Bangwa
whose small museum tries to keep the trace of the past.
Still in bamiléké country, but near Bamenda this time, one finds Cheffery of Bafut
whose architecture strongly differs from the other chefferies.
In Foumban, in bamoun country, one can see imposing
palate of the sultan , built on the model
of the German residences.
